Why is it so important to filter your water with something BETTER than a Brita?
I hate to break this to you (if you didn’t already know), but our tap water is nothing more than sewage water that’s been minimally filtered & chlorinated.
It’s been shown to contain…
- heavy metals
- PFAS aka “forever chemicals”
- atrazine, glyphosate & other pesticides, nitrates from fertilizer
- Rx like birth control, opioids & more
- microplastics, BPA, BPS
- dioxins, PCBs, VOCs
- pathogens like bacteria, mold, viruses & parasites
- vinyl chloride leaching from PVC
- copper leaching from copper pipes, this is only a problem if you aren't metabolizing copper properly

So even if you’re filtering your water, are you actually?
Why I'm not a fan of the Berkey system, even though it filters very well, comparable to a reverse osmosis system:
- difficult to clean
-no water gauge (can't see how full it is)
-separate filter needed to filter out fluoride
-no way to know when to change your filters (so you need to calculate how much water you filter)
-priming of the filters is challenging, and special attention is needed if you vacation
-accessories are necessary for seamless use: a stand so you can fit a glass under, a gauge to measure water levels, extra filters etc.
- I've also heard that Berkey filters are a huge breeding ground for mold, so I am definitely not a fan of that
What I am a fan of, is any reverse osmosis system. Many require under sink installation, but the Aquatru is an easy countertop RO filter. It has a performance data sheet so you can see exactly how many contaminants are removed in PPM, it's NSF certified, BPA and BPS free, easy to clean, notifies user when it's time to change the filter (and doesn't require an extra filter for fluoride).
